The Gleaner’s 3rd Annual Pet Photo Contest Winners
1st place: France Laplante wins a $25 gift certificate

The first-place photograph submitted to The Gleaner’s third annual Pet Photo Contest features playful pup cousins Lucy and Asia enjoying a splash together. Photographer France Laplante notes that even though her dog Lucy doesn’t normally like the water, she still had a good time playing with her cousin.
A total of 32 photographs of Valley pets were submitted to the contest in celebration of National Pet Day coming up on April 11. The pet owners behind the lens for the first-, second-, and third-place photographs will each receive a gift certificate valid at any of the participating pet-related advertisers. A slideshow featuring all the images will be published on our social media pages on April 10. The second-place photograph is featured on the front page of the French section of this edition, and we couldn’t help but name an honourable mention or two on pages 9 and 17. The Gleaner thanks all who participated!
2nd place: Mckenzie Hooker wins a $15 gift certificate

This adorable photograph of cuddly and colour-coordinated best buddies Oakley (dog) and Axel (cat) was selected for second place.
3rd place: Emma Hayes wins a $10 gift certificate

Our third-place photograph features Stevie, an 18-pound kitty, in all her glory. Owner Emma Hayes says that “From Temptations to stolen cold cuts on sandwiches, Stevie never shies away from a food heist.”
Honourable mention

Meet Georgie, a pit bull-mix rescue dog who enjoys chilling on the porch.

Who could resist those puppy eyes? Certainly not us! This border collie named Ciobair (Gaelic for shepherd) moved in with owner Mary Greenbank at eight weeks of age and was a mischief-maker from the start.
