2025 marks the 200th anniversary of the town of Huntingdon. The municipality is using this milestone to focus attention on the cultural, historical, and community heritage of the town. It will also showcase the contributions that generations of people have made to the town to help in its development.
There is a whole series of activities planned to celebrate the year. These include exhibitions, shows, family activities, and initiatives to highlight the town’s heritage. The hope is that these will be enjoyed by residents, tourists, and the next generation of Huntingdon residents. These events will be announced in advance on the Huntingdon website, social media, and the new electronic billboard.
The first event will be a winter carnival on March 8, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Prince-Arthur Park.
The town has also unveiled a 200th anniversary logo, to be used throughout the year, which features the vibrant green and rich purple of the municipality’s official coat of arms. It was designed by Huntingdon resident Sarah Rochefort Higgins, who combined elements of tradition with modernity. The original shape of the coat of arms was kept, while new design elements that pay homage to the town have been added including depictions of the Walker Bridge, the Henderson Mill by the Chateauguay River, and the Woollen Mills.
A statement from the town highlights the importance of remembering the town’s heritage while also looking forward to where the town is going. (CF)
