HDON CENTENARY RECEIVES CITY PUBLICITY
Names and Addresses of Distant Friends Still Solicited by Board of Trade
The Board of Trade have mailed upwards of 1500 booklets advertising the centenary to be celebrated over three days early in the month of August.
“One hundred years ago,” the booklet reads, “the Hunters and the Macfarlanes welcomed the surveyor sent out by Lord Dalhousie to lay out the village of Huntingdon. The years have
rolled by and now the time for the rallying of the clans is at hand.”
In the following pages the writer speaks of the changes in the familiar landmarks of the old Scotch settlement, mentioning names of people and places long known to those bred and
raised in the community, those who have scattered to other parts of the country.
Calling Back Her Sons.
The main object of the observation of its hundredth year is to call back those sons and daughters of the town who have drifted away, yet who still have ties of blood and association with it. The message is directed to them. “This is the time to commemorate this important event among old surroundings and old friends,” it continues. “Visits at your convenience have too often been marred by a sense of lonesomeness-—an alien generation lives— the old gang’s gone. This time a deliberate effort is being made to get old friends together. Join with them!”
The Board of Trade is now busy preparing the programme of events which will mark this community reunion, and these will be announced later. They look forward to a hearty
response to the call of the “old home.”
