A 55-year-old man is facing accusations of second-degree murder in connection with the discovery of a body in Saint-Anicet on January 25.
Manuel Rouleau appeared virtually at the Salaberry-de-Valleyfield courthouse on Sunday, where he was formally charged with the non-premeditated killing of a man in his late 70s.
The Sûreté du Québec has not confirmed the relationship between Rouleau and the deceased; however, a report by the Journal de Montréal identifies the victim as his father, Marcel Rouleau.
Officers from the MRC du Haut-Saint-Laurent detachment were called to intervene at a residence located on Chemin Rivière la Guerre around 9 a.m. The victim was found unconscious and was declared dead at the scene. Rouleau, who was present at the scene, was arrested before being questioned by investigators that afternoon.
According to the Journal de Montreal, the victim was killed at some point between January 23 and 25. Rouleau is expected to appear at the Valleyfield courthouse for a bail hearing on Monday.
The police investigation into the circumstances surrounding this case is ongoing. (SR)
