Mary Ducharme of Archives Hemmingford has been unanimously selected by the Quebec Anglo Heritage Network (QAHN) as the recipient of the Marion Phelps Award for 2020. The prestigious award is presented annually by the QAHN in recognition of outstanding long-term contributions by an individual to the preservation and promotion of Anglophone heritage in the province. The award was to have been presented during the annual convention in June; however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will now take place in Lennoxville on Nov. 14.

Ducharme first moved to Hemmingford in 2001, and by 2005 had been introduced to the Archives, which was going through a difficult period. She was quickly named chair, and over the years she spearheaded efforts that saw the Archives flourish, moving from its original location in the Hemmingford Town Hall basement, to the library at Hemmingford Elementary School, and eventually to its recently completely renovated location. Last year, Ducharme was forced to withdraw from the Archives due to her health. Her contribution to the Valley is undeniable, and this award honouring her is very much deserved.
