The MRC du Haut-Saint-Laurent presented its annual retrospective of the year’s cultural activities at the Salle Culturelle Alfred-Langevin (SCAL) on December 10.
The evening included a look back at the six exhibitions held at the SCAL, which were attended by over 1,430 people, as well as a brief presentation on the different projects and initiatives launched by the MRC over the year.
At least 15 artists and photographers were also rewarded for their contributions to the group exhibition and photography contest with prizes sponsored by the MRC, the Caisse Desjardins du Haut-Saint-Laurent, and an anonymous donor.
A total of 33 artists participated in the art exhibition, which took place under the theme of “Calm.” The winners of the juried art exhibition include Susan McIntosh of Hinchinbrooke, Carolle Trépanier of Godmanchester, and Suzanne Olivier of Ormstown, as well as Tina Michaud and Pat Walsh who received honourable mentions. The public’s choice prize was presented to Serge Poirier, and a participation prize was awarded to Noëlla Quesnel of Huntingdon.
There were 33 photographers who participated in the annual contest. The winners in the youth category include Léonard St-Michel, Gabrielle Provost, and Mia Trudel, while Gaby Beauchamp received the public’s choice award. The adult category was won by Heather Miller, as well as Manon Béatrice Gauthier and Susan Ovans. The public’s choice award was presented to Nancy Hébert.
The event also included a special tribute to Lucille Morin, who has organized the giant mandala activity as part of the Journées de la Culture each September since 2009.
The evening finished with a glimpse at the SCAL programming for 2025, which starts in January with a photography exhibition by artist Normand Jacob.
Finally, the choice of themes for this year’s group art and photo exhibition were unveiled. The final decision between “Elevation,” “Energy,” and “Joy,” will be revealed in February following a public vote.
