Three Ormstown Saracens “old boys” travelled south of the border to Boston, Massachusetts to watch Rugby Atl (from Atlanta, Georgia) play the New England Freejacks on May 13. Rugby Atl was led on the field by Godmanchester native Matt Heaton, who is the club cocaptain. Heaton has played with the Canadian senior national team since 2016 and was named Canadian rugby player of the year in 2017 and 2019. He has also played rugby in Wales and in England. He started his rugby career on the pitch at Chateauguay Valley Regional High School and with his first club, the Ormstown Saracens.

Atlanta plays in the Major League Rugby (MLR), where the level of play is improving every year with more players coming from around the world. It was a great game, but the Freejacks won 15-10. Currently second in the eastern division, Rugby Atl won against the Toronto Arrows on May 28 to clinch a playoff spot. The team will play the New Orleans Gold on June 3 to end the regular season.
