Six projects to share over $500,000 in MRC funding

A half-dozen new municipal or community-based projects will soon be underway, thanks to funding from the MRC du Haut-Saint-Laurent.

A total of $503,514 has been awarded to six local organizations in partnership with the Ministère des Affaires municipales et de l’Habitation and the Fonds régions et ruralité (FRR) – volet 4: soutien à la vitalisation et à la coopération intermunicipale. This component of the FRR is designed to support the implementation of revitalising initiatives that will have a positive impact on the region’s vitality by improving the population’s quality of life.

The call for projects, which took place between October 31, 2023, and March 1, 2024, focused on community, tourism, and workforce development specifically within the municipalities of Dundee, Havelock, Hinchinbrooke, Huntingdon, and Saint-Anicet.

The municipality of Hinchinbrooke will receive $100,000 for its dek hockey and sports area initiative, estimated to cost a total of $174,106.

The municipality of Saint-Anicet was also awarded $100,000 to complete the second phase of municipal wharf repairs and infrastructure improvements. The renovations are expected to cost a total of $154,500.

A sum of $30,000 has been earmarked for the purchase of equipment to maintain walking and cross-country ski trails during winter at the Clun de Golf Saint-Anicet. The total investment for this project is estimated at $60,000.

The town of Huntingdon’s proposal to build a community kitchen that will benefit numerous area community organizations was selected. The total project cost is $120,648, of which $100,000 will be funded through the FRR.

The municipalities of Dundee and Saint-Anicet will see the strengthening of local food security services thanks to the purchase of a new refrigerated truck by La Bouffe Additionnelle. The truck is expected to cost $139,000, and the MRC will contribute $73,514.

Finally, a budget of $100,000 has been allocated to Fraser Inc. for the development of an ecotourism centre in the municipality of Dundee. (SR)
