Spartan Talk September 23, 2026

Yet another school year has kicked off at CVR, and with that comes a buzz of activity.

Several sports teams have started practicing, among them the soccer team. The field hockey team wasted no time getting started. Their first event is coming up on September 25 in Nepean, Ontario, where a select group of students will receive the unique opportunity to compete with teams from the Ottawa area. The coaches are proud to announce that there have once again been enough girls to make three teams, meaning that no one gets cut.

The rugby girls have also gotten a jump on things this year, with practices having started on September 9 and lengthy tournaments planned for various Sundays throughout the fall.

The performing arts department is excited to announce that the end-of-year play is Hercules! The class is thrilled to start this project and ready to work hard to live up to your expectations and the legacy of the past productions that have taken place at CVR. Good news, though: a prophecy has foretold that it will be a positively marvelous performance!

Many clubs have started gathering members, notably the Dungeons and Dragons Club and the Future Firefighters Club, who have laid out sign-up sheets for interested students and are having first meetings in the upcoming weeks. The After-hours choir has also had a first rehearsal and has once again welcomed lots of new members to join in on the fun!

The school has decided to integrate morning announcements into the students’ daily routines. For the first ten minutes of the morning, the latest updates are read out by senior students as well as Leadership members, allowing them to keep students informed and practice their public speaking!

Leadership has already had their first few meetings and were glad to welcome lots of new members to the group. The club has divided into four big groups to plan the activities for the fall months. The first activity lined up is the Terry Fox Run, which is set to take place on September 28 with a goal of raising $6000. The other upcoming events are the first school dance, Fall Fest, and Halloween week.

The Leadership group is starting off the year with a bang and trying to make it the best yet: in keeping with the school’s theme of the 2026-2027, these students plan to “Leave it Better.”
