Meghan Condie ran her first snowshoeing races just last year, and now the Special Olympics athlete from Dewittville has been preselected as a member of team Quebec for the 2024 Canada Winter Games in Calgary.
Condie won individual gold medals in the 100-metre and 400-metre snowshoeing events during the Quebec Winter Games, held this past March in the Saguenay region. She also brought home a bronze medal in the 200-metre event, and a gold and bronze medal for anchoring the 100- and 400-metre relay teams.
The Calgary Games will take place between February 27 and March 2, when over 4,000 visitors, including athletes, coaches, officials, and staff will gather for the event, which features eight sporting competitions and various events.
Condie is also proving to be a speedster on the track. During her first Special Olympics track and field competition, held July 15 in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, she placed first in the 100-metre sprint and won a silver medal in javelin. (SR)
