Ciné Cinéma presents Casablanca

Huntingdon’s film club will be presenting the Hollywood classic at the Little Green Library (4 Lorne Street) on Friday, April 19, at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, April 21, at 2 p.m. More information can be found on or on Ciné Cinéma’s Facebook page.

Earth Day Forum

There are so many reasons to attend this they can’t be listed here, but it’s sure shaping up to be an amazing event on April 20, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m, at C.V.R. See the article on page 22 of this edition.

Lions Club brunch

Join the Ormstown Lions Club on Sunday, April 21, at the Ormstown rec centre (87 Roy Street) for a very well-furnished brunch plate. Chow down between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. for $20, (adults) and $8 (kids eight and under).

Pulled-pork sandwich supper

The Guides are holding this tasty fundraiser on April 20 at MacDougall Hall in Ormstown (19 Lambton), from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Cost is $20 per adult, $10 for kids aged 5-11, and the under-fives eat for free.

Barrie Aux AGM

The Women’s Auxiliary of the Barrie Memorial Hospital will hold its AGM on Wednesday, April 24, at 8 p.m. at the Ormstown Curling Club (7 Chateauguay Street).

Collection for La Bouffe

On April 27 from 10 a.m. until noon, the Scouts and Guides will be around Huntingdon collecting food for La Bouffe Additionelle.

Square dancing competition

This popular event is being held on Saturday April 27 at 1 p.m. in the Industrial Building at the Ormstown fairgrounds. All are welcome to spectate, cheer, and have a whirl afterwards. $10 for adults, $5 for children (aged three to 12 years).

Hemmingford Legion chicken BBQ dinner

Enjoy another delicious chicken dinner at the Hemmingford Legion on Saturday, April 27. Reservations only; call Sheila Moore at 514-347-1177 by Friday, April 26, for your large half-chicken, baked potato, gravy, coleslaw, dinner roll, and dessert, all for only a $20 donation. Pickup is from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Legion Hall (486 Rue Champlain).

CVHS news

The Chateauguay Valley Historical Society is holding its AGM on May 1 at 5 p.m. at 315 Route 202 in Hinchinbrooke. The organization will also be inaugurating a new research centre that was made possible by a generous donation.

CVR performing arts department performs Little Shop of Horrors on Thursday, May 2, at 8 p.m.; Friday, May 3, at 8 p.m.; and Saturday, May 4, at 2 p.m. Call 450-829-2381 for tickets and information.

A little help for students

During the month of May, the Haut-Saint-Laurent is organizing a school rally; HSL students starting primary or secondary school will receive free school and lunch supplies, gift certificates, and school uniforms.
