Did the earth move?

Yes, it did, last Thursday morning, and the epicentre of the 3.2-magnitude quake was in Godmanchester. Whether you experienced a bang, felt a shake, heard that big ol’ geo-truck rumbling through, or felt nothing at all, the tremor was recorded as far away as Laval, Sainte-Anne-des-Monts, and Hawkesbury.

Zumbathon and on

There will be a “Zumbathon” fundraiser at the Ormstown rec centre (94 Roy Street) on February 9, as part of the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. $25 includes 1.5 hours of Zumba, a smoothie, a photobooth, and more. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and Zumba starts at 6 p.m. For 13 years and older. Search “Zumbathon Ormstown” on Facebook for the event page.

HSL UPA general meeting

On Thursday, February 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Le Mangeoir (6004 Ridge Road, Saint-Anicet) the Haut-Saint-Laurent UPA syndicate hosts its meeting and conference including a presentation by Ian Ward, “Our zero-carbon farming future: How do we get there, and why bother?” Also, the UPA celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. Oscar-nominated film

Ciné Cinéma will be presenting Anatomy of a Fall at the Little Green Library (4 Lorne Street, Huntingdon) on Friday, February 16 at 7:30 p.m. in its original French, and on Sunday, February 18 at 2 p.m. with English subtitles. More information can be found on or on Ciné Cinéma’s Facebook page.

Valentine’s evening

Celebrate heart Day with the Ormstown Legion and musician Elana, on Saturday, February 17 from 7:30 to 11 p.m. at the Legion Hall (33 Prince Albert Street). Piano music, guitar, slow dancing, party music, Elana has it all. Donations at the door appreciated.

Tiny pasta firehoses?

The Howick Fire Department is holding a spaghetti supper on February 17 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Howick Elementary School (5 Lambton Street). Adults chow down for $15, kids aged 5-12, $7.50, and under 4 are free. See ad below for details.

Woodwinds and a mezzo

On Sunday, February 18 at 3 p.m. at Eglise St. Romain (543 Frontiere, Hemmingford), the wind octet Otto Venti and mezzo-soprano Isabelle Ricard will perform to benefit the Hemmingford Community Library. For more information, call 450-247-0246. Please donate generously at the door.

Saint-Stanislas skates 80s disco!
