Just under 120 producers and visitors gathered at Ranch Covey Hill in Havelock on October 5 for the annual Cattle Day organized by the Syndicat des producteurs de bovins de la Montérégie-Ouest. The event was in collaboration with the Montérégie office of the Ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries, et de l’Alimentation; Agriconseils Montérégie; and the Réseau Encan Québec.
It provided an informative networking opportunity for producers to learn about the latest trends and innovations in cattle production. The activity featured a conference on the management and care of purebred beef bulls, followed by a panel discussion about cattle marketing. The day ended with a demonstration of herd management strategies on pasture, as well as a steak-and-fries supper and live music.
The event also raised around $5,000 during an on-site auction for the non-profit organization Au Coeur des familles agricoles, which provides front-line psychosocial services to improve the well-being of farm families.
“Cattle Day was a resounding success,” said Kirk Jackson, the president of the Syndicat des producteurs de bovins de la Montérégie-Ouest. “This event highlights the importance of the beef cattle industry in our region and demonstrates the collective will to support and advance our production.” (SR)
