The first major storm of the winter season rolled through at the end of last week leaving what will likely be a white Christmas in its wake. There is rain followed by snow forecast for December 23rd, so the combination of the two will hopefully leave enough white stuff on the ground for Christmas Day.
The storm left 30 cm of snow on the ground, which has already compressed down to 22 cm in depth. The snow also melted down to 27 mm of water bringing the total precipitation to date at 50 mm, which is about normal.
Despite the snow, the temperature has stayed on the warm side. Even though the average temperature for the week was -1.0 degrees Celsius, down from +1.0 degrees Celsius the week before, it is still way above the monthly average of -4.5 degrees Celsius. Nighttime temperatures continue to be well above normal and above what would ordinarily be the daytime high on a frequent basis.
