A minor earthquake centred near Fort Covington shook the North Country, as well as several communities on this side of the border, less than an hour after the start of the New Year.
The 2.4-magnitude earthquake struck at 12:58 a.m. on January 1, with the epicentre located about five kilometres south of Fort Covington, New York, near the border with Dundee.
The United States Geological Survey registered the earthquake as occurring about 4.6 kilometres below the surface.
According to NBC5 News, people in northern Franklin County as far away as Malone experienced some minor shaking. No damage was reported. (SR)
